Saltmarsh Stories brings together monitoring, local memory, field observation, and community storytelling around the lower estuary.

The project helps volunteers and local residents record what they notice: changing tidal edges, saltmarsh plants, shorebirds, debris movement, old access points, and places where people feel connected to the estuary.

Project focus

  • Collecting repeat photos from simple monitoring points.
  • Recording community observations about estuary change.
  • Sharing stories from volunteers, fishers, families, and long-term residents.
  • Identifying future restoration and clean-up priorities.
  • Helping the public understand why saltmarsh is a valuable habitat.

Why it matters

Saltmarsh can be easy to overlook. This project makes the estuary edge more visible by combining citizen science with human stories that explain why the place matters.
