Saltmarsh Watch volunteers have started seasonal monitoring around the lower estuary, using repeat photos and simple field notes to track visible change over time.
The work supports a clearer community picture of saltmarsh condition, tidal creek edges, rubbish movement, and the places where restoration or clean-up activity may be needed.
Community science in action
The monitoring approach is designed to be practical for local people. Volunteers record what they can see clearly and consistently, then the information can be reviewed alongside project planning and partner advice.
Why it matters
Saltmarsh is easy to overlook, but it provides important habitat, filters water, and helps people understand the changing edge between land, creek, and estuary.
