Banksia Bay Dune Recovery is a Coastcare project focused on restoring native dune vegetation, protecting beach access tracks, and helping people understand why the dunes matter.

The project is delivered with Banksia Bay DuneCare volunteers and local reserve partners. It combines practical working bees with clear access guidance, simple interpretation, and seasonal shorebird awareness.

Project focus

  • Removing priority coastal weeds including bitou bush and glory lily.
  • Planting local native dune species in damaged areas.
  • Maintaining pedestrian access so beach users stay off fragile vegetation.
  • Reporting storm damage and erosion after severe weather.
  • Supporting shorebird awareness during sensitive times of year.

Community role

The project gives new volunteers a visible and rewarding starting point. People can join a one-off working bee, adopt a small follow-up task, or become part of the regular DuneCare group.
