Small Farms Pollinator Strips is a demonstration project for landholders who want productive farms with more habitat, better soil cover, and stronger populations of beneficial insects.

The project establishes small demonstration plantings on participating properties and uses field days to show how native flowering plants can support pollinators, shelter beneficial insects, and create stepping stones for wildlife.

Project focus

  • Planning simple pollinator strips that fit real farm layouts.
  • Using local native species that flower across different seasons.
  • Connecting pollinator plantings with shelterbelts, farm dams, and creek lines.
  • Sharing practical lessons about site preparation and maintenance.
  • Building links between biodiversity and productive land management.

Why it matters

Small farms cover a large part of the Banksia Coast hinterland. Even modest plantings can add up when landholders learn together and connect their work across the landscape.
