Saltmarsh Watch is a citizen-science group helping the community notice and record changes around the lower estuary. Volunteers monitor saltmarsh condition, tidal creek edges, mangrove boundaries, rubbish movement, and wildlife observations using simple repeatable methods.

The group is designed for people who enjoy quiet observation as much as hands-on restoration. Its records help Banksia Coast Landcare explain why estuary edges matter and where future projects may be needed.

What the group does

  • Seasonal photo-point monitoring.
  • Saltmarsh plant observation and simple condition notes.
  • Rubbish and debris mapping after high tides or storms.
  • Wildlife observations, especially shorebirds and small fish habitat.
  • Training days for new citizen-science volunteers.

How people participate

Volunteers can join scheduled monitoring mornings or adopt a regular observation point. The group uses simple field sheets and phone photos, so people can contribute without specialist equipment.
